This is a review on the book Wake by Robert J Saywer. Note there are spoiler in this review, I'll try to avoid putting too many on here. The books are about a girl name Caitlin Decter. Caitlin is many things: A math genius, a master of using the web but, she is also blind. One day she gets an email from a professor in Japan name Masayuki Kuroda whom thinks that he can cure her blindness. She goes to Japan and has implant installed, however she still can not see.
She returns to her home in Canada and is told by Kuroda to download in update to the software in her Eyepod the hardware pack that's suppose to corrects the signals from her Retinas. However instead of seeing the real world she see what is undeniely the world wide web, and there's something in the background, and its getting smarter by the hour.
This book really makes you wonder about the true nature of our consciousness and the consciousness of other animals. It talks about hundreds of different topics such as self awareness and theory of mind. About cellular automata and the true values of all this, as well as more casual things such as the life of a blind teenage girl and her autistic father. This is a book really worth a try.
